Basepump Water Powered Sump Pumps:

Highly regarded by plumbing industry professionals, Basepump water powered backup sump pumps set the industry standard for durability, reliability, and innovative design.

Ultra-reliable, Basepump has no battery, motor, or moving parts to wear out. The pump is fully automatic - it starts pumping when it is needed, whether you are home or away.

Unlike other water-powered sump pumps, Basepump is mounted on the ceiling, high above the sump pit, so that it does not have to fight downward water pressure. As a result, Basepump delivers dependable pumping power without placing undue strain on the pump.

Here's how it works:

  • When water rises above the normal high water level in your sump pit, for any reason, the Basepump float lifts.
  • The float then opens a valve, sending municipal water through the Basepump Ejector.
  • This water flow creates powerful suction, which draws sump water up from your pit and discharges it outdoors.
  • Once the float returns to its normal level, a pre-set timing control keeps Basepump pumping long enough to completely drain the sump before switching off.
  • This cycle repeats when the water level rises above normal again.

To determine which Basepump is best for you, figure out how active your sump pit is. On an especially rainy day, which of these describes your sump pit:
  • Normal: Your primary sump pump cycles on and off less than 12 times an hour (over 5 minutes apart).
  • High: Your primary sump pump cycles on and off more than 12 times an hour (under 5 minutes apart).
  • Very High: Your primary sump pump cycles on and off more than 30 times an hour (under 2 minutes apart).

All Basepump models come with:

  • Basepump Ejector: Heavy duty polypropylene construction resists corrosion and rust.
  • One-Way Check Valve: Prevents sump water from being able to reverse and flow back down into the sump.
  • Mounting screws and clamps; Cable tie straps; PVC fittings; 3 foot flexible PVC discharge hose.
  • Float to activate the Ejector; Hydraulic transfer tube, which connects the float to the Ejector.
  • Suction screen to keep sump pit debris out of the Ejector.
  • Water Alarm to alert you to high water conditions ($30 value). Can be connected to security systems or phone dialers.
  • Installation Instructions: Easy to read and fully illustrated.

Deciding between a Standard Model or AVB Model:

  • Your local town plumbing department may require a backflow prevention device with the Basepump. If so, buy a Basepump model that comes with one (RB750-AVB, RB750-EZ, HB1000-AVB, HB1000-PRO, or CB1500-AVB). Note: the RB750-EZ and HB1000-PROs' backflow preventers are Dual Check Valves, while the other models' backflow preventers are Vacuum Breakers.
  • Keep in mind that Basepump models with vacuum breakers (RB750-AVB, HB1000-AVB, and CB1500-AVB) MUST be installed with an independent discharge that self-drains to the outside of the house. Due to the vacuum breaker, they CANNOT be connected to your primary pump's discharge, and they also CANNOT be installed in a way that pumps water up to a higher vertical position than the vacuum breaker itself. This is to prevent discharge water from spilling out of the vacuum breaker into your basement.
  • As long as you install the AVB properly, it will automatically prevent backflow conditions, without reducing pumping capacity. Learn more on our backflow prevention page.
  • Wisconsin residents: Your state has particularly specific backflow prevention requirements. Please note that the Atmospheric Vacuum Breakers on Basepump -AVB models are approved for use, statewide, in Wisconsin.
  • Note: The standard model has greater mounting flexibility and may be installed in many different basement configurations.

Installation Kits:

The Basepump model RB750-EZ includes a special Do-It-Yourself Installation Kit ($93 value), which includes all the specialty parts you'll need to install the pump, except for 2 easy-to-find lengths of pipe.

Water Supply Checklist:

To make sure you can use Basepump pumps, verify the following 4 items:

1. Household Water Pressure: To use all Basepump models, you need incoming water pressure at the Basepump Ejector to be between a minimum of 40 PSI and maximum of 90 PSI. Take into account the pressure loss from your test point to the Basepump Ejector. Avoid excessive piping from the tee-in point (see diagram).

2. Pipe Types: You need full-flow copper piping or an equivalent (PVC, CPVC, PEX are all fine as long as they are approved in your area). Basepump CANNOT be used with galvanized iron pipes.

3. Pipeline Restrictions: Basepump needs to be teed-in to your water pipe before any devices that can restrict water flow (again, see diagram). Examples of such devices include: stop & waste valves, pressure regulator valves (PRV), water conditioners, water filters, etc. One exception: if your incoming municipal water pressure exceeds 95 PSI, then you should "tee-in" after the Pressure Regulator Valve (PRV) to prevent damage to the pump. Water meter must be minimum 3/4" standard.

4. Household Water Flow: To use Basepump pumps, you must be able to fill a 5 gallon bucket with water from your house's hose spigot within the following times.

RB750, RB750-AVB, RB750-EZ HB1000, HB1000-AVB, HB1000-PRO CB1500, CB1500-AVB
Fill a 5 gallon bucket in: under 40 seconds under 30 seconds under 20 seconds

Note: If your water spigot is a frost-free type, shorten the time it took you to fill the bucket by 25%, since this type of spigot typically reduces water flow by 25%, compared to a normal spigot. For example, reduce 40 seconds by 25%, to 30 seconds.
